Migrant Route Through Serbia Closed Down, Minister Claims

The fact that the Balkan migrant route is currently “fully shut down” just goes to show how important the Western Balkans are to Europe’s fight against illegal migration, Serbian European Integrations minister Tanja Miscevic said on Oct. 10.

 “At the moment, illegal crossings between Serbia and Hungary are zero, while their number has dropped by 70 percent at all other borders. Europe strongly appreciates our fight against smuggling groups,” Miscevic told the latest edition of the NIN weekly.

According to her, Serbia – specifically its border police and other services dealing with migrations – played a “key role” in achieving these results.
