People in Serbia were concerned over the recent tragedy at the Novi Sad Railway station, where a concrete outdoor canopy had collapsed killing 14 people, and therefore the cabinet ministers should demonstrate accountability and tender their resignations, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Nov. 12.
“I know that some people had not intentionally stepped down, or had not been allowed to resign ahead of the protest rally in Novi Sad for to avoid the idea of doing it under someone’s pressure. Now, there is an opportunity for you to demonstrate moral and political accountability,” Vucic, currently visiting Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, told state public broadcaster RTS
Vucic urged prosecutors to continue their hard work to establish criminal liability in the tragedy, noting he was aware of the complexity of the case.
So far, Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Goran Vesic has been the only cabinet member who has resigned his post.
