Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Nov. 18 told European Commission official Gert Jan Koopman that Serbia's goal was to complete reform processes and alignment with the European Union's legislation by 2027.

"I expressed the expectation that the EU and member countries will recognize the efforts and progress Serbia has made and that Serbia will step up its pursuit of the shared goal -- membership in the EU," Vucic wrote in a post on his Instagram account after meeting with Koopman, director general at the EC's Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations.

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric told Koopman that Serbia was building bilateral relations with EU member states and creating new ties and friendships with countries with which it has not yet had the opportunity to cooperate closely.

Djuric reiterated that full membership in the EU was Serbia's strategic goal and one of the country's highest foreign-policy priorities, that Serbia "is and remains the pillar of peace and stability in the region" and will continue to work on strengthening neighborly relations and cooperation, which is an essential part of enlargement policy, the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
