France’s special envoy for the Western Balkans, Rene Troccaz, stated in Belgrade on Dec. 12 that Serbia was doing more than it said in the process of European integration, that this was important and that Paris strongly supported the European Union’s enlargement.
This is a change of stance by Paris, since France used to be skeptical regarding the EU enlargement issue, Troccaz said at the international conference titled “Prospects and implications of the European Union’s common foreign and security policy in 2025.”
“We have a clear policy – we wish that neighbors, partners and friends join the European Union. The goal is clear and we strongly support and help the partners in approaching the EU,” Troccaz stated at the conference, organized by the International and Security Affairs Center – ISAC Fund.
The chief of the EU Delegation in Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, stated that Serbia had a number of reforms to implement by the end of this year. “Some of them are very important and pertain to, for example, elections. I think that Serbia is advancing in certain fields and that it can fulfill the goal by the end of the year. If few more weeks are needed to carry out the reforms, I do not think that is crucial, it is more important to continue the process and to see reasonable results,” Giaufret stated.
