The EU ministers on Dec. 17 approved a letter inviting Serbia to present its negotiating position for chapters 16 and 19, which are part of Cluster 3: Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth, which they described a step closer to EU accession, the Hungarian presidency posted on its X account.
Ambassadors of EU member states on Dec. 16 agreed to invite Serbia to open Cluster 3, as a first step in the process, while submitting the letter to Serbia was approved at a meeting of the EU Council on Dec. 17. Under Cluster 3, Chapter 16 refers to taxation, and Chapter 19 to social policy and employment.
Hungary’s permanent representative to the EU, Odor Balint, has written on his X account that on behalf of the EU, he has signed the letter inviting Serbia to present its negotiating position on chapters under Cluster 3. “This is a major step underpinning Serbia’s accession talks and EU enlargement process which is the key priority of Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU,” Balint wrote.
