Former Head of Opposition Party Named New Ambassador to U.S.

Dragan Sutanovac, the former president of the oppositional Democratic Party who served two terms as Serbian minister of defense, has been named the country’s new ambassador to the U.S., Belgrade media reported on Jan. 16.

Sutanovac’s appointment was published on the Serbian Cabinet’s website in the morning of Jan. 16.

In the last few years, the politician has led the relatively unknown Council for Strategic Policy, an independent research center located in Belgrade.
