Serbian Government (BETAPHOTO/NENAD PETROVIC/)
The Serbian government will cede, free of charge, the Barracks of the 7th Regiment in Belgrade to the company Affinity Global Development, owned by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, which will convert the building into a hotel and name it after his father-in-law, the Radar weekly reported on March 13.
According to the report, the former minister for construction, transportation and infrastructure, Goran Vesic, who has signed the contract with Kushner’s company on the Serbian government’s behalf, for the land and the remains of the complex of the General Staff of the Army of Serbia in central Belgrade, “has kept secret the fact that they would also be given the Barracks of the 7th Regiment, which is a cultural monument of national significance and is located on the same lot.”
It was declared in the report that this was one more secret contract “signed by the authorities without any economic logic, which the state will have no benefit from whatsoever,” and that it was signed “despite opposition from the professional public and citizens.” Radar also reported that no works were currently going on at the site, but that the lessee of the land, i.e. Kushner’s company Affinity Global Development, was developing plans and the project itself. The Barracks of the 7th Regiment, the report reads further, will not be demolished, but converted to house the Trump International Hotel.
This can be viewed on the images of the future look of the hotel, published on the official web-site of the company. Among the given contact details, besides the e-mail address, is also the street address of the future complex – Nemanjina 15, which is the address of the Barracks, Radar reported. This building has the area of around 3,000 square meters, it is owned by the state of Serbia and the current holder of the right of usage is the Defense Ministry of Serbia.
