In a March 26 evening post on Instagram, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic announced that he and Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban have agreed to accelerate their countries’ cooperation in all areas of social life, including defense.

Vucic stated that he had an “excellent” phone conversation with “Serbia’s great friend Orban” and that they exchanged opinions on the political situation in the world, Europe, and Serbia and Hungary in particular.

“I supported Prime Minister Orban in his efforts to preserve the Hungarian state’s independence in decision-making and thanked him for his tremendous contribution to building the closest ever Serbian-Hungarian relations. We will soon be signing some important and big things,” the post reads.

In the wake of Hungary, Albania and Kosovo signing a declaration on defense and security cooperation in Tirana on March 16, certain Belgrade media have claimed that Vucic and Orban are negotiating a military alliance between Serbia and Hungary.
