The Independent Union of Teachers of Serbia on April 16 called on school principals to halt disciplinary proceedings against teachers on strike by mid-May at the latest and announced new forms of protest if the do not.

The union urged the teachers who have started to give classes not to take part in the "imposed falsification of making up classes" and recommended that they give all students highest final grades.

"[The union] urges all employees whose salaries have been cut to file lawsuits against schools and criminal reports against the principals to protect their rights, collect damages and give the justice system an opportunity to compel those responsible to follow the law," a press release noted.

The union thanked the Alek Kavcic Foundation and the Solidarity Network set up by IT experts for organizing and delivering financial aid to teachers.
