Dragan Djilas (BETAPHOTO/DRAGAN GOJIC)

The president of the Freedom and Justice Party, Dragan Djilas, deputy president Borko Stefanovic and the party’s international secretary, Konstantin Samofalov, met on May 21 with the president of the Party of European Socialists (PES), former Swedish prime minister Stefan Lofven, representatives of the party have stated.

They added that they used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the support of PES and the social-democratic MEPs to the struggle of the citizens, students, the civil sector and the opposition against the dictatorship of Aleksandar Vucic, which has been going on relentlessly for months now.

They further said that they informed the representatives of PES, which is one of the two largest political groups in the EU, that the repression of Aleksandar Vucic’s regime was increasing dramatically and that the support of the European social-democrat friends in the struggle for a normal and democratic Serbia was precious at this time.

“The participants concurred about the deeper integration of the Freedom and Justice Party into the structure of the Party of European Socialists, while our party conveyed the stance that elections that would be at least marginally fair, with the implementation of recommendations of ODIHR, would be an exit from this deep political crisis Serbia found itself in,” the party declared in the statement. The meeting was also attended by the general secretary of PES, Giacomo Filibeck. The location of the meeting was not disclosed.
