Zagorka Dolovac (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
The opposition People's Party has announced that it will launch a campaign titled "In the name of the people! For the dismissal of Zagorka Dolovac!" on June 4, aimed at determining Dolovac's accountability as prosecutor general.
"The prosecutor general has been occupying the highest prosecutorial position for a full 15 years without any results that the people and citizens of Serbia remember, not even knowing what she looks like," the People's Party said in a statement on May 30.
The party is calling on parliamentary and non-parliamentary parties to join it and support the people's initiative, which "remains as the only legally possible way" to initiate a debate in parliament regarding the prosecutor general's responsibility for "not performing their constitutional and legal office."
"The procedure over the collapse of the (railway station) canopy in Novi Sad is just the tip of the iceberg, where it is no longer known today which prosecutor's office in Serbia is leading this procedure over a tragedy that took people's lives and because of which social clashes started seven months ago," the party added.
