Helicopter
On July 9, the oppositional Serbia Center party issued a statement questioning why the Army of Serbia deployed only one firefighting helicopter when wildfires were registered at over 620 locations throughout the country and also demanded to know the whereabouts of all other such aircraft the government bought.
“President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic boasted how the Army acquired new Mi-17 and H-145 helicopters, which, along with the [ones the Army already owned] would be used to combat fires. Of all of them, the number [deployed] was one,” the party’s committee for defense and security said.
Serbia Center also recalled that the military’s third stated mission is to aid civil authorities during emergencies, which is why the deployment of military helicopters should have been far greater, the press release said.
