Vladimir Djukanovic, an MP of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, said on July 17 that there were people in the government who had been undermining the system, adding that a revolution had been attempted in Serbia which had its roots in the government and the system.
“We have to face it, it is a deep state system. We have a part of the state that has been hijacked. Let's be straightforward by saying that all of this has been orchestrated from abroad, but the main driving force in Serbia are people in the government and people in the system,” Djukanovic told TV Pink.
Djukanovic, who is viewed as a close associate and friend of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, said that the people in question were in the security system, the judiciary, and culture and media sectors.
“Not to mention those in government ministries, our security services, and particularly in the judiciary. It is even more scandalous. In the police? Let’s be totally frank - do you know how many heads of police departments or people working in the police have been turning a blind eye to the situation, deliberately failing to respond, and similar things? Because, someone has long prepared this, this has been dished up for a long time," he said.
