Croatian politician Tonino Picula lost credibility as the European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia when, on the 30th anniversary of Croatian army and police operation Storm, during which more than 200,000 Serbs were expelled, he posted a photograph from that period showing him holding a rifle, former Serbian ambassador to the OSCE Branka Latinovic said on Aug. 8.

In a statement for daily Blic, Latinovic said that Picula had made a "traveling violation" and should step down from his position.

"Picula has disqualified himself as the European Parliament rapporteur for Serbia, especially bearing in mind that his job is, among other things, to resolve the legacy of the past... He has diminished further the possibility of his active engagement in that position. Few from the opposition in Serbia will want to meet with him after everything," she said.
