Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Aug. 8 that extraordinary elections would be called in accordance with the Constitution and before the legal deadline, but did not say when.

"We will definitely have elections before the Constitutional and legal deadline," Vucic told reporters in Belgrade. This was his response when asked by a reporter about the protesting students' demand for a snap parliamentary election. Student protesters have called him a coward for not calling the vote.

"Elections will happen when the responsible state institution [the president of Serbia] makes the decision to call them, in accordance with the Constitution and the law," he said. He went on to say that "they" would probably win the election, adding that they were saying that themselves based on the enormous advantage that their surveys showed.

He also said that "the essence of the color revolution" was for Serbia to be weaker than any other country in the region and for him to be "a president without authority who kneels before everyone who wishes Serbia ill." He accused the persons whom he said were "the leaders of the blockaders" of hating Serbia and wanting the worst for their country and said it was because of them that the country was in a difficult situation, because "they have reduced the rate of growth, destroyed tourism and many branches of the economy."
