The solution to Serbia’s ongoing crisis is dialogue, Serbian Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Demo Berisa said on Aug. 25 and underlined that the authorities, however, currently have no one to talk to.

This lack of communication between the state and the people protesting in the streets is the core problem, Berisa insisted in an interview for the Politika daily, adding that his ministry “is always open to engaging in any kind of dialogue that would contribute to reducing tensions.”

According to the minister, “the group active in street riots” represents not the majority of Serbia’s population but rather a minority, “because the people in question are individuals and small groups, and by no means the people as a whole.”

“The public is demonstrating its stance by not participating in these events but rather supporting the  policies of the state, led by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic,” Berisa concluded.
