EXPO 2027 (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
Nikola Jovanovic, the director of the Center for Local Government, said on Aug. 27 that the announced EUR14-billion budget for the Expo 2027 project should be invested in addressing sewer system problems and waste water processing in Belgrade.
He said waste water processing would mean paving the way for riverfront development, the growth of nautical tourism and river transportation, higher quality of life and elevated value of all real estate in the capital.
"I believe it to be a strategic and civilizational error to plan for holding Expo 2027 and for that endeavor not to encompass an effort to connect all Belgraders to the sewer system, waterworks and distance heating, and to finally clean up the Danube and Sava," Jovanovic said.
