Peaceful, non-threatening marches are non-issues for the police but its officers will not allow public disorder, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Sept. 1, indirectly referencing the downtown Belgrade protest rally announced for later in the day.
“We’ve never taken issue with the public gathering and expressing its views. What we do take issue with are attacks on other citizens, the police, within public institutions, on other people’s property and on state bodies. That we certainly will not allow,” Dacic told Pink TV while visiting a Zemun elementary school on occasion of the first day of the new school year.
The minister added that 1,900 police officers will be providing security at Serbia’s school for the time being.
