New Face of Serbia party president Milos Parandilovic said on Sept. 3 that the Serbian Progressive Party was at war with education and critical thinking, adding that Education Minister Dejan Vuk Stankovic was "executing a new wave of repression by firing dozens of 'undesirable' teachers, ordering their contracts not be renewed."
"This is scandalous. We are a country with a chronic lack of education staff due to the terrible working conditions and paltry salaries, and now the regime is firing teachers just because they think for themselves," Parandilovic said in a written statement.
Parandilovic called on the entire opposition-aligned public, students, parties and citizens, to stand up to defend the teachers who were fired, stressing that they were the victims of political persecution. According to him, Stankovic needs to be urgently sacked, and all teachers who were fired must be reinstated.
"Serbia will not be a country where teachers and their knowledge are truly valued as long as the Progressives, with their agenda of hate for all critical thinking, are in power," Parandilovic said.
