Serbian Parliament Debate on Lithium Mining, Oct. 8 2024 (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
The Serbian Dveri (Doors) Movement party said on Oct. 8 that it was "completely pointless" for the opposition to keep lending legitimacy to the sitting "criminal" government by its presence at sessions of the Serbian parliament, whose fall session began on Oct. 7.
"Is a few minutes on air on the [Serbian Broadcasting Corporation] worth opposition MPs tolerating the worst insults from people who would be on the very outskirts of a normal society?" Dveri asked. The party said in the statement that these persons did not just level insults and lies against their political opponents, but against anyone who thought differently than "the mob cartel" in power -- students, journalists, teachers.
"Members of parliament from the opposition, if they have any dignity at all, must leave the session of the National Assembly and demand extraordinary parliamentary elections. Dveri urged them to do so even before the start of the session, and one day after the start of the session proves us right," the press release reads.
