Ambassador of Israel Avivit Bar-Ilan (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)

Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Avivit Bar Ilan on Oct. 15 conveyed a message from the family of Alon Ohel, one of the 20 hostages released in Gaza on Oct. 14, thanking the Serbian people for their support for his return.

In an appearance on the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation, the ambassador said the mother of Alon Ohel, who has Serbian and Israeli citizenship, had said he felt mentally well at the moment, but was now facing recovery. Bar Ilan said it was in the interest of the region to disarm the Palestinian Hamas movement.

We must make sure that the Gaza Belt is free of Hamas' control so the entire region, the Israeli and the Palestinian peoples, can have a better future, the ambassador said. According to her, they have all been the hostages of Hamas for the last two years.

She voiced Israel's expectation that the international community and partners in the cease-fire would pressure Hamas so the agreement was followed in its entirety. There is great hope and opportunity in this agreement and the fulfillment of its items, she said, stressing that U.S. President Donald Trump's plan was good news for the Palestinian people in Gaza, too.
