Media expert and retired Faculty of Political Sciences professor Rade Veljanovski said on Oct. 17 that the authorities in Serbia wanted to disable the work of critically-minded media outlets and that their goal was for such outlets to disappear so that the authorities could spread their own propaganda more easily.

He told the Danas daily that it was in the interest of the regime to control the entire media scene and that representatives of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party were not interested in what the public at home or internationally thought about it.

Commenting on changes in the United Media management structure, Veljanovski said that it seemed to him that the company's new owners, who are not from Serbia, were cooperating with the Progressive party.

The Nova and Sport Klub televisions, i.e. their umbrella company United Media Production (UMPD), as of Oct. 15 have three new directors - Vladica Tintor, Guibert Schroyen and Tim Pennington, the Nova website (nova.rs) reported.

The new directors are now also at the helm of other entities within United Group in Serbia.

According to data from the Business Registers Agency, they are the new legal representatives of UMPD, along with hitherto company director Nemanja Simeunovic.
