Rector Vladan Djokic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
Although some claim that support for the university students’ election ticket will eventually decline, Belgrade University rector Vladan Djokic expressed his belief in the opposite, claiming on Oct. 23 that the list will only gain popularity over time.
“Dissatisfaction with the regime is on the rise and if the elections happen in a year’s time, I think the students will only have greater support than they do now. Regardless of what happens in the meantime,” Djokic told the Vreme weekly.
According to the rector, the students’ goal is not seizing power but for the state to operate properly – which, he says, is evidenced by the fact that their ticket does not include a single university student.
Asked about the candidates the students will put forth, Djokic said that these individuals should “only continue what the [protesting university] students have envisioned and what they have been championing for the last year.”
