A group of 60 Serbs from Kosovo set off in the morning of Oct. 29 from Rudnica to Novi Sad on foot, with the goal, in their words, of supporting Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the Kosovo Online portal has reported.

They stated that they had heard the invitation of the Serbian president about a great rally of the Serbs who oppose the blockades and the obstruction of Serbia, that this was their motivation and that they intended to cover the 315-kilometer distance, as they said, in some ten days. A memorial rally is to be held in Novi Sad on Nov. 1 to mark one year since the collapse of a concrete canopy at the city’s newly reconstructed railway station, when 16 people were killed and one seriously injured. On the other side, Vucic has been announcing a rally in Novi Sad on several occasions, but never its date.

The Kosovo Online portal reported that the group consisted of Serbs from central and northern Kosovo, carrying Serbian flags and banners. They stated that their motivation was to support their country and show that they do not want Serbia to stop because, as they stated, “only a strong and progressive Serbia is ready to preserve its people in Kosovo.”

Students and citizens from several cities and municipalities throughout Serbia are traveling to Novi Sad on foot to attend the Nov. 1 rally, and the longest route, 400 kilometers, will be covered by the group from Novi Pazar.
