The Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina has been following with concern the incidents targeting Serbs in Croatia for these do not contribute to a culture of tolerance and coexistence but rather foster bigotry, the party’s president Tomislav Zigmanov stated on Nov. 10.

“We again resolutely condemn all such actions aimed against Serbs and express our support to the Serb community’s institutions, with faith that the relevant authorities in Croatia will successfully resolve anything undermining the standards of democratic life,” said Zigmanov, Serbia’s former minister of human and minority rights.

Over the past week, Croatia has seen multiple incidents targeting its Serb community, starting with a group of hooligans sabotaging the Days of Serb Culture in Split. This was followed by masked men protesting in front of the Serb Cultural Center in Zagreb and another group of masked males loitering near the young Serbian martial artists competing in the Balkan Karate Tournament in Rijeka.

Meanwhile, the president of Croatia’s Independent Democratic Serb Party, Milorad Pupovac, has received death threats, while the mayor of Vukovar has requested the postponement of a photo exhibition titled “The Serb Woman: The Hero of the Great War.”
