Ambassador of Denmark to Serbia Pernille Dahler Kardel
Denmark wants to see Serbia in the European Union, but Serbia “should make more progress,” Danish Ambassador in Belgrade Pernille Dahler Kardel stated on Nov. 13.
“The world we live in today does not allow us to just say we can to this or we can do that – it is very important that us Europeans stick together, work together and strengthen our being European,” Kardel stated at the opening of the panel discussion titled “Views from Serbia on EU Pre-Enlargement Reforms.”
She recollected that the enlargement process was open and that it was “important that all candidate countries, including Serbia, seize this opportunity and start the process of accession.” “I represent a people who want to be in the same alliance as the Serbian people and other peoples of the Western Balkans,” Kardel stated.
Vladimir Medjak of the European Movement in Serbia, who was one of the speakers during the panel, assessed that the political elite in Serbia was “not compatible with the European Union.” “European integration is based on complementing political elites. The Serbian elite have shown to be incompatible with the EU,” Medjak stated.
