Serbia would decide which direction it would take in the future, in an election, and there was no doubt that it would be facilitated, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said in Belgrade on Nov. 18.

Wadephul also said he had received assurances from Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Foreign Minister Marko Djuric that Serbia was clearly committed to its EU path.

After his meeting with Djuric, Wadephul told reporters in Belgrade that the candidate countries were also expected to ensure freedom of assembly and expression, noting that these issue were not negotiable as they represented the pillars of the EU.

Wadephul, who arrived in Belgrade in the evening on Nov. 17 and has already met with Vucic and Djuric, is also scheduled to talk with civil society representatives. Later on Nov. 18, he will travel to Pristina and then to Skopje, where he will conclude his three-day tour of the Western Balkans.
