The Bureau for Social Research (BIRODI) stated on Dec. 24 that, in order for the 2026 electoral process to have integrity, the Serbian president had to abide by law and not use his rating to help one electoral ticket.

Even at recent local elections in Negotin, Mionica and Secanj, the names of tickets of the coalition around the ruling Progressive Party contained the Serbian president’s name, which BIRODI had requested to be removed.

The organization added that the president of the Republic was a public official, performing his duty in a manner that is supra-party, supra-national and supra-regional, thus representing the unity of the state, i.e. he is obligated not to submit public interest to the private one – that of the party in this case.

“Considering that 2026 is an election year, it is important for the electoral process that the president of the Republic acts according to the Constitution, the law and ODIHR recommendations, and does not use the illegally acquired rating for helping one electoral ticket, thus abusing a public office and his social position,” the Bureau declared in the statement.
