REM - Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (Beta/Milos Miskov)

The Bureau for Social Studies (BIRODI) called on Jan. 8 on the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) to perform an analysis to determine whether the Rulebook on protecting human rights waas violated during an appearance on Informer TV by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

BIRODI said that adherence to regulations on the veracity and completeness of information, presentation of opinion polls, hate speech and the presumption of innocence needed to be checked.

"According to BIRODI's monitoring, Vucic's last two appearances on Informer TV were characterized by propaganda. The anchor and guest shared the same value framework, the journalist frequently used the 'we' narrative, thereby completely identifying with the government embodied by the guest, there was no critical questioning of the guest, with a minimal number of counter questions. The anchor actively supported and amplified the guest's narrative," a statement said.

BIRODI expects the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) to continue, in accordance with its prerogatives, the practice of publicly releasing the findings of the monitoring conducted by its service for oversight and analysis.
