The working conditions and situation of journalists of local media outlets in Serbia have declined further in 2025, a survey conducted by the ANEM Association of Independent Electronic Media showed it was announced on Jan. 14.

The results were broken down for eight cities -- Subotica, Novi Sad, Pozarevac, Kragujevac, Cacak, Novi Pazar, Nis i Vranje, and further into a region including respondents from Zajecar, Bor and Negotin, while towns with insufficient respondents for cases studies were analyzed for responses in a section titled "Other Towns."
The lowest rating, 1.87, was of the journalists' economic position, which is a considerable drop since 2024, when this rating was 2.16. The freedom of the press was rated 2.23 last year, while in the previous considered period it had been at 2.52. Access to information at the local level dropped from 2.45 to 2.2, while the greatest decline compared to the previous year was the safety of media workers -- from three to 2.63.
