Serbia, EU flags (BETAPHOTO/European Council/FRANCOIS LENOIR)
The process of Serbia’s integration into the European Union is not stalled, although no new negotiation chapters have been opened in the past four years, Serbian Minister of European Integration Nemanja Starovic announced on Jan. 19.
“We are implementing our reforms agenda at a satisfactory pace and have accordingly been withdrawing funds from the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans,” Starovic said in an interview for the Vecernje Novosti daily.
According to the minister, there is no “credible alternative to continuing Serbia’s integration into the EU.”
“While I fully understand the disappointment and even bitterness many people justifiably feel due to the hypocrisy and double standards to which we’ve often been subject, I believe political decision makers have no right to approach things emotionally and must responsibly consider the future of the country and its people,” Starovic concluded.
