Radomir Lazovic, the co-president of the opposition Green-Left Front, on Jan. 20 said that the forthcoming meeting of opposition parties and a delegation of the European Union (EU) in Belgrade would signal that the EU had recognized the fact that “there is a significant alternative to Serbia’s fake EU integrations.”

Lazovic told Belgrade daily Danas that the pro-European opposition parties would struggle to ensure that the upcoming special mission of the European Parliament (EP) would be followed by appropriate and concrete activities aimed at “resolving the crisis in Serbia.”

The EP delegation will be visiting Belgrade Jan. 22 to 24, while Serbia’s top officials have said they will not be meeting with EU representatives.

The EP delegation members are scheduled to meet with representatives of the five opposition parties which have recently agreed coordination of their EU-related activities, as well as with Vladan Djokic, the rector of the University of Belgrade, Maja Kovacevic, the dean of the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences, and Srdjan Roncevic, the dean of the Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences.
