The ruling Serbian Progressive Party is appointing police personnel based solely on political allegiance, while Interior Minister Ivica Dacic aims to avoid any responsibility, co-president of the Green-Left Front Radomir Lazovic said on Jan. 28.

In a statement for the Danas daily, the opposition politician further called Dacic’s position one of the most important in the country and accused the interior minister of “staying out of” his own job while “placing the police in the service of Progressive thugs and party interests.”

Lazovic added that he spoke of this state of affairs with the European Parliament mission which visited Serbia on Jan. 23.
