An early revision of the City of Belgrade budget will be adopted at an assembly sitting planned for Feb. 27, the non-governmental Center for Local Self-Government announced on Feb. 12.
The organization, which deals with local government issues across Serbia, claims that the Belgrade budget – adopted in late December 2025 – requires a rebalance due to debt and overall poor finances resulting from lawsuits the capital has lost.
“A budget rebalance in February is unheard of, but it could have been expected, which we warned [the public] about,” said Nikola Jovanovic, the NGO’s director.
According to him, the current Belgrade government is driving the capital toward bankruptcy, the toll of which will fall upon “all Belgraders should the current approach to [city] management not change immediately.”
