Dveri (Doors) party president Ivan Kostic said on March 4 that the joint initiative of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to have the two countries admitted into the European single market and Schengen Area without veto rights in the European Union was deeply wrong and harmful to Serbia's interests.

Kostic said Vucic "proves again that the interests of Greater Albania are much more important to him than the political and economic interests of the Serb people." "We are duty-bound to point out that this initiative is deeply wrong and harmful to Serbia's interests. It is especially unconscionable to come out with such proposals in cooperation with the political leadership of Albania, a state that basically does not recognize the sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia over Kosovo and Metohija and that actively supports false structures in Pristina," a press release issued by Dveri quoted Kostic as saying.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama recently co-authored an opinion piece for German media advocating accelerated integration into the single market and Schengen Area for European Union candidate member countries that meet the conditions instead of full membership in the 27-nation bloc.
