Speaker of the Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic stated on March 26 that the joint proposal of members of the parliaments of Serbia and Republika Srpska (RS) was to intensify work on founding the same memorial centers in Belgrade and Donja Gradina, dedicated to the victims of the quisling Independent State of Croatia (NDH) in WWII.

The centers would be places of remembrance and play “an educational role for the generations to come about the crimes committed against the Serb people and the genocide committed in the criminal, monstrous NDH,” Brnabic said during a joint news conference with RS Assembly Speaker Nenad Stevandic.

They addressed the media after the opening of the Republic of Serbia-Republika Srpska Parliamentary Forum, which Brnabic said was directed toward the strengthening of institutional cooperation and the affirmation of commitment to the policy of dialogue, peace and stability in the region. She emphasized the wish for them, as parliamentarians, to make cooperation as concrete as possible, and have singled out the memorial centers and defined them as a particularly important subject in cooperation, the realization of which will be insisted on.

Stevandic stated that the forum strengthened the institutional ties, as well as personal and cultural ones. “The crown of that would be the completion of a memorial center that would be identical to the one in Donja Gradina, the location of the biggest execution ground for the Serbs, where even children were kept in death camps,” he stated.
