Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on April 3 initiated consultations with representatives of political parties on holding a snap general election and other political issues.

Vucic first talked with representatives of the Movement of Socialists, headed by party leader Aleksandar Vulin, and on April 3 he is also meeting with the leaderships of two minority parties - the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians and the Bosniak Justice and Reconciliation Party.

After the meeting, Vulin told reporters that an election should not be called in current conditions, "where there would be more violence than elections and where the very holding of elections would be called into question by the violence of those who have been keeping Serbia in fear for 15 months."

He also said the Serbian government "is not working well enough" and that it should be reshuffled, "because the majority of the ministers have not taken their job responsibly."

National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic said recently that Vucic had announced the launch of talks within the Serbian Progressive Party, but also with other parties and political factors, on parliamentary elections and "the country's broader foreign policy direction."

Multiple opposition parties have said they will not take part in consultations with Vucic, which they largely describe as yet another manipulation by the authorities. The parties added that Vucic had not even sent them an invitation for consultations.
