The non-governmental European Movement in Serbia has invited the public to a pro-European rally in downtown Belgrade, to be held on the Trg Republike square at 1 p.m. on April 18.

As the Young European Federalists gather in the Serbian capital for [their] Federal Committee meeting, we invite all to join our pro-European rally at Republic Square,” the European Movement wrote on its Facebook page.

According to the Movement, the purpose of the rally is to send a message in the wake of the Belgrade Marathon, making it clear that “Serbia’s future is in the European Union,” that “democracy, rule of law, and fundamental freedoms are non-negotiable,” and that “young people are ready to stand up for a better future.”

“At a time when democratic values are increasingly under pressure across Europe, standing up for them matters more than ever. This rally is part of our #DemocracyUnderPressure campaign: defending the principles that unite us and pushing back against their erosion,” the April 14 post concludes.
