The Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Office requested on April 16 that the Basic Court in Pristina place Dejan Pelevic, a suspect in war crimes in the municipality of Srbica, in custody for 30 days.

The Prosecutor's office said that Pelevic was deployed as a member of the Serbian Interior Ministry during the war in Kosovo to the police station in Srbica, where, uniformed and armed, he is suspected of participating in a police and military operation in March 1999.

During the operation, it said, civilians were violently expelled from their properties, beaten, tortured and wounded while 15 Albanian civilians were killed and 16 civilians disappeared at two locations in Srbica. He was arrested in the village of Socanica in the Leposavic municipality on April 14.
