Kosovo’s acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, said on April 30 that early parliamentary elections would be held on June 7.

The decision was announced after a consultative meeting with representatives of political parties, to which, according to her, 17 representatives had been invited and 15 took part in. New early elections in Kosovo will be held after the deadline for the Assembly to elect the president of Kosovo recently expired.

Hadziju said the date was set after proposals by the political parties were discussed, and in line with legal and constitutional deadlines. “Based on the Law on General Elections, I concluded a meeting with leaders and representatives of political entities. I heard their proposals for the date of elections. After assessing constitutional deadlines, the organizational needs of the Central Election Commission and the importance of the broadest possible participation of citizens, I have decided that early elections will be held on June 7,” the acting president of Kosovo explained.
