Borko Stefanovic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)

Borko Stefanovic, the vice-president of the Freedom and Justice Party, said on April 11 that owing to the inactivity of Nemanja Starovic, the minister for European Integration, Serbia has dropped from the position of leader in European integration in 2012 to the bottom of the list of EU candidate countries.

“Thanks to the cabinets in which Starovic was a minister, Serbia is officially the most corrupt and criminalized country in the region, earning also the worst mark as far as the freedom of the media is concerned,” Stefanovic said in a press release.

He pointed out that Starovic’s “anti-European efforts” have been rewarded by almost RSD26 million granted to his sister by the Vojvodina government alone.

“This is why the Progressives do not want Europe: it means prison sentences for thieves, free institutions and a dignified living standard for our citizens, rather than for privileged [Serbian Progressive Party members]. The Prosecutor’s Office for high-level corruption will have much to do there with its police. Starovic will not be the only one to account; many will join him,” Stefanovic added.
