Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic stated on June 10 at a meeting with Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Col.Gen. Zakir Hasanov, that the long-term violations of fundamental principles of the international legal order and interference in internal matters of sovereign states had precipitated an increase in the number of new conflicts.
“Serbia’s defense policy is based on respect of international law, the U.N. Charter and all relevant resolutions of the U.N. Security Council, preservation of military neutrality, strengthening own defense capacities and the foreign political determination toward EU membership,” it was stated after the meeting in Belgrade.
Gasic emphasized that Serbia appreciated Azerbaijan’s consistent stance on the issue of “non-recognition of the so-called ‘Kosovo’ and expressed concern over the processes taking place in the territory of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, in violation of Resolution 1244 of the U.N. Security Council.”
The defense minister of Azerbaijan thanked for the cordial greeting and the opportunity for talks about possibilities for the further strengthening of cooperation in the defense field. He emphasized that Azerbaijan greatly appreciated the friendly relations with Serbia and that he was convinced this meeting would contribute to the further advancement of the two countries’ partner relations.
