Gojko Bozovic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
Writer and one of the ProGlas initiative's founders said on June 16 that members of the Serbian Diaspora are much more interested in participating in upcoming elections than in the past.
Bozovic told the Beta News Agency that the Diaspora has organized itself and hooked up with local organizations that support protests in Serbia "demonstrating a clear intention to participate in a decision that could determine the present and future of Serbia."
"The Diaspora's attitude toward the events in Serbia could be seen based on the large number of events that the Diaspora organized in support of the protests in Serbia over the past year and a half. From this numerous local groups of our people in the Diaspora have arisen as a support network that is being created gradually and but persistently. ProGlas has decided to address the Diaspora precisely because no one is speaking to the Diaspora," he said.
Asked about the degree of interest in the Diaspora for participating in upcoming elections, Bozovic said that three recent ProGlas rostrums in Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart showed not only the Diaspora's emotions and energy but its interest in voting in the upcoming elections.
Bozovic said that at this time, it is important to invite the Diaspora to turn its interest in the situation and events in Serbia into participation in the elections.
"Our people in the Diaspora need to participate in the electoral process not just as voters but as observers and supervisors and before elections it is necessary to secure a much larger number of polling stations for the Diaspora. We have a much too large Diaspora and a much too small number of polling stations," he explained.
