Opposition parties in the Zrenjanin City Assembly have announced that the tragedy that happened in Linglong's tire factory in the city late on June 18, when a 20-year-old worker was killed, "is another image of the disastrous state of safety and working conditions."
"When organizations and opposition parties warned about the many shortcomings and illegal aspects of the functioning of Linglong, the regime [led by] Aleksandar Vucic claimed that those were lies. When the competent institutions of the U.S. and France banned tire imports from this factory over slave and forced labor, as well as over the poor conditions the workers are working in, Aleksandar Vucic's regime turned a blind eye," the opposition parties said in a statement.
They added that the regime in Serbia "has allowed the Chinese to turn a factory on Serbian soil into a territory where domestic laws do not apply and all previous work injuries have been hidden from the public."
Democratic Party leader Srdjan Milivojevic has called Linglong a symbol of Vucic's using Serbia as a means of trading.
"It is yet more proof that the price of Vucic's trading the state is no longer paid only with polluted soil, sold out resources and humiliation of Serbia, but also with human lives," Milivojevic stressed.
