Aleksandar Vucic (BETAPHOTO/PREDSEDNISTVO REPUBLIKE SRBIJE/Dimitrije Goll)

The ruling Serbian Progressive Party of Serbia sees incumbent President Aleksandar Vucic as the country’s next prime minister, said party leader Milos Vucevic in a July 1 evening statement for Radio Belgrade, although, he stressed, it is up the Vucic “to accept or reject” this proposal.

“We want him to be our main candidate, for us to run in [the pending snap parliamentary] elections together. We see him – should our ticket win the elections, should the citizens of Serbia so decide – as our nominee for prime minister,” Vucevic explained.

While he said the party must still finalize the details of how it will run and campaign, Vucevic made it clear that the Progressives hope Vucic will lead their ticket, underscoring he has an open invitation and that they are awaiting his final decision.
