What Serbia’s current regime fears most is a united opposition and that is why it wants a divide between oppositional parties and the university student movement – all of which serves as just one more reason for anti-regime actors to begin negotiating, People’s Movement of Serbia leader Miroslav Aleksic said on July 2.

His press release reiterates that the recipe for victory is an electoral front uniting the opposition and the university students, but also expressed Aleksic’s doubts in the willingness of all sides in question.

The opposition leader said he is convinced an agreement can be reached if everyone sits down at the same table, stressing that “this opportunity must not be wasted.”

“I call for reason, dialogue and agreement on a serious strategy. If I am an obstacle, I’ll withdraw. If polls show I don’t have support, I’ll accept that without anger. The goal is to liberate Serbia, and we can only do that as comrades-in-arms and allies. Today, there is only one division [that matters]: between those who support the regime and those who want change. Serbia no longer has time to wait, because it loses something new with every passing day,” Aleksic concluded.
