European Parliament MP Vladimir Prebilic said on July 2 that the arrest of political functionaries in Serbia for questioning is legal repression, and also unnerves persons attacked by a sonic weapon in Belgrade on March 15.

The Green MEP told N1 TV that a resolution on Serbia that the European Parliament (EP) will soon vote on is "going to be good and without political skirmishes." Prebilic noted that the resolution is going to be adopted slightly later than the resolutions on other candidates for EU membership because "there is always more straying than progress in the country."

"We want to put all of that into the resolution which is why it is being adopted in July, separately from the other candidates," he said, adding that EU Delegation to Serbia Head Andreas von Beckerath has been notified about the authorities' pressure "so as to put some pressure on them, to clarify what happened."

Prebilic added that in Serbia "not one [negotiating chapter] cluster has been opened for five years now, while all of the other countries of the Western Balkans and even Ukraine are opening them," He, added, however, that opening clusters does no mean much as well as that the road to meeting the conditions for that is long.
