Borko Stefanovic, the deputy president of the oppositional Freedom and Justice Party, said on July 20 that his party’s activities have been geared towards protecting the election results and the electoral will of the public, as well as rallying parties and organizations with a “pro-EU bent.”
“We believe that there are many people who want clear answers on where and how Serbia will progress after [the rule of President Aleksandar] Vucic and that dismantling the mafia-like regime is necessary rather than merely removing the main actor. The doors of the Platform for a European Serbia are open to everyone who shares [its] values and agrees that Serbia deserves a clear policy and clear answers for [its] people,” Stefanovic told the Nova daily.
The politician opined that Serbia cannot progress toward EU membership under the current regime, since the country has failed to open Cluster 3 of the accession process.
“It is sad that Vucic’s government has led us to being the worst in Europe and to now, with longing, stare at the backs of those countries we once led in the accession process. Opening Cluster 3 is possible and needed as long as all the criteria are met, as [was the case] for all other countries in the accession process,” Stefanovic concluded.
