Opposition Official: Interior Ministry Selling LRADs to Eliminate Evidence of Potential Use at March 15 Rally

Petar Boskovic, member of the Serbia Center party leadership, has said that the announcement by Interior Minister Ivica Dacic that Serbia might sell its Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRADs) is "an escape from accountability, so as to eliminate evidence of the potential use [of an LRAD] at the protest rally on March 15 last year."

"They absolutely want to get rid of the evidence. You must know that Aleksandar Vulin, when he was the police minister, wanted to change the Law on Police, but failed. He specifically wanted to add a sonic cannon and a net for capturing people to the instruments of coercion," Boskovic told the July 24 issue of daily Nova.

In his words, LRADs were overpaid for when they were procured, while now the police want to sell them at half price, i.e. "get rid of them."

Boskovic believes an expert examination could check whether the device was used at the March 15 protest rally, given that there are operation systems and that it is easily checked.

"The main question is who ordered Police Director Dragan Vasiljevic and then commander of the Gendarmerie Sasa Kosovic to bring a sonic cannon out into the street. Only Dacic can do that," said Boskovic.
