Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on July 27 that there is little chance Parliament will pass a vote of no-confidence in PM Djuro Macut’s cabinet given that the opposition “wasn’t even capable of securing a quorum” for the sitting – a statement supported by the fact that the opposition holds a minority in the Assembly.
Speaking for the RTS public broadcasting service ahead of the July 27 extraordinary sitting whose sole purpose is discussing the motion of no confidence the opposition submitted back in February, Brnabic stated the regime is not afraid of any topic but does not expect a substantiated debate either.
Meanwhile, in a July 27 op-ed for the Politika daily, Constitutional Court president Vladan Petrov said it is absurd to expect the parliamentary majority to dismiss the cabinet and thereby remove itself from power i.e. delegitimize itself and directly induce early elections.
Practically speaking, Petrov wrote, it is highly unlikely that the National Assembly of Serbia will pass a vote of no confidence in the cabinet despite the option being provided by the Constitution.
